Launch of new National Standards for Ecological Restoration – 15th March 2016

STANDARDS FINAL BANNER MARCH 2016

For the past 3 years Ecosure Principal Restoration Ecologist, Jen Ford, has been assisting the Society for Ecological Restoration Australasia (SERA) to develop the National Standards for Ecological Restoration. The standards provide a blueprint of principles, methods and steps required to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a wide spectrum of restoration projects to increase their likelihood of success.

Jen’s involvement with the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators, and her position on the Board of SERA, placed her among a group of restoration ecology experts from thirteen organisations consulted as advisors and contributors to the standards. With the recent finalisation of the standards in February 2016 including a web version, they are now set for launch by the Federal Threatened Species Commissioner, Gregory Andrews, on Tuesday 15th March at the National Seed Science Forum in Sydney.

“Ecological restoration is a necessary activity required to ensure that the declining health of our landscape, ecosystems, waterways and oceans is arrested and turned around. The development of a national standard can assist any person involved in this activity to ensure planning, on ground works, monitoring and evaluation are done according to sound science and practice, while maximising limited resources. With so many competing priorities it is essential we do the best possible job we can and I believe this document will assist many people with ensuring their efforts count” Jen Ford, Principal Restoration Ecologist, Ecosure

In addition to Jen’s significant commitment to the development of the standards, Ecosure has sponsored the standards in recognition of their significance and importance for the recovery of Australian Ecosystems.
