🌿 A Celebration of Collaboration and Conservation 

Earlier this month, Ecosure proudly hosted a special media event at Burleigh Head National Park (Jellurgal), bringing together partners from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), Hermann Vorster MP GAICD, and local journalists. The purpose: to highlight an exciting and transformative ecological restoration program now underway. 

Thanks to funding from the Queensland Government, we’ve begun a three-year restoration initiative across Burleigh Head National Park, Tallebudgera Creek, and Burleigh Knoll conservation parks. The project focuses on controlling invasive weeds, protecting precious habitats, and working closely with community partners to ensure this iconic coastal landscape continues to thrive.

Why Burleigh Matters 

Burleigh Head National Park is more than just a scenic destination! It’s a biodiversity hotspot and a cultural treasure: 

Ecological Significance: 

• Home to endangered ecosystems like lowland subtropical rainforest 

• Habitat for vulnerable species such as Cryptocarya foetida, (commonly known as stinking laurel) Randia moorei, (commonly known as spiny gardenia) and the Richmond Birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera richmondia) 

• Supports over 140 bird species, koalas, echidnas, and seasonal marine visitors like humpback whales 

Cultural Heritage: 

• Traditional land of the Kombumerri people, known as Jellurgal or ‘Dreaming Mountain’ 

• Rich in sacred sites, creation stories, and traditional practices 

• The Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre offers guided tours and cultural education 

Visitor Impact: 

• Welcomes over 1.4 million visitors annually, making it Queensland’s most visited national park 

• Despite its popularity, it receives limited funding due to the absence of revenue-generating activities like camping 

Ecosure’s Role

Supported by QPWS and government investment, our team brings extensive technical experience in ecological restoration, from complex invasive species management to long-term habitat rehabilitation and monitoring.  

Together, we are creating meaningful, lasting change. By combining specialised field skills, deep collaboration and cultural knowledge, we’re working to ensure Burleigh’s natural and cultural values continue to thrive for generations to come.
