Ecosure team keeping the coastline clean!

If you’re headed over to South Stradbroke Island this weekend, you may find it looking a little cleaner after a team of Ecosure and Avisure staff, family and friends spent a camping weekend collecting bags of rubbish for Clean Up Australia Day.

From South Currigee Camp ground to the Gold Coast Seaway our team scoured the dunes and the waterways for rubbish and as always we were overwhelmed at the amount of pollution we found.

The weather dished up its usual downpour, which we’ve come to expect on this particular camping trip, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits! It was a weekend of family fun, socialising and hard work, made so rewarding by the knowledge we are making a real difference. South Stradbroke Island is not only a beautiful natural playground for people in the region, but as it is predominantly conservation park surrounded by the Moreton Bay Marine Park, it is of high conservation value. Numerous protected species both on and around the island can suffer from the effects of pollution so it is vitally important that we do all we can to maintain the quality of their environment.

Clean Up Australia Day commenced in 1989 when keen sailor and Sydney resident Ian Kiernan witnessed first hand the polluted state of the world’s waterways and decided to make a difference in his own back yard.
