Ecosure’s Commitment to Developing Strategic Partnerships
Ecosure has recently formed a Strategic Partnerships team headed by Diane Lanyon (Director of Strategic Partnerships). In 2018, Ecosure set a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) of improving the ecosystems of 100 million hectares and 1,000 islands worldwide by 2030.
Melaleuca irbyana Recovery Project
Teams from the Gold Coast, Brisbane and west of Brisbane Ecological Restoration team have been contributing to the recovery of the Melaleuca irbyana or weeping paperbark, which is listed as Endangered under Queensland’s, Nature Conservation Act 1992.
Koinmerburra Ridge to Reef Restoration Project
The Ridge to Reef Alliance connects First Nations Peoples with scientists to deliver whole-of-ecosystem restoration projects from the ridge line to the reef. The Alliance, led by Diane Lanyon (Ecosure General Manager), has partnered with Koinmerburra Aboriginal Corporation for the Koinmerburra Ridge to Reef Restoration Project.
Monitoring threatened species long-term
Ecosure has been monitoring threatened species at a site in Northern New South Wales for 10 years. This long-term commitment helps ensure the conservation of threatened species populations. Target fauna groups are surveyed biennially, this year one of the focal groups was threatened bats.
Using thermal imaging to accurately count flying-fox numbers
In what will become a great advance in monitoring flying-fox camps, drones (UAVs) are being used to photograph populations in NSW and QLD. Ecosure, in collaboration with Western Sydney University, are using thermal imaging systems mounted on drones to collect the images that are then processed for automated counting.
Ecosure works with Queensland’s largest conservation program
This is a very exciting 2 year project where Ecosure, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Science’s Private Protected Area Program, is providing a range of services to nature refuge landholders.
Sunny Gold Coast office receives solar boost
We recently purchased and relocated our Gold Coast office and shed to a combined warehouse and office space in Burleigh Heads. We now have plenty of room for our growing office and field teams, equipment and fleet; and a fantastic home base for our Gold Coast staff to continue improving ecosystems across South-East Queensland, Northern New South Wales and beyond.
A ‘must see’ exhibition to inspire and educate the globe about reef conservation
Jessie Courtney attended the exclusive launch of the Museum of Underwater Art’s ‘Ocean Sentinels’ Above the Surface exhibit, at the Museum of Tropical Queensland in Townsville. It was a wonderful night of celebrating science, culture, knowledge, and art with like-minded people who care about marine conservation.
